Over 30,000 species of insects are known from California. They are important pollinators of native plants, can be beneficial bugs or pests in our gardens, and are an endless source of fascination. No matter what we think about insects, they are critical components in healthy ecosystems. Using live and preserved specimens, illustrations, photographs, and local field guides, participants will learn diagnostic characteristics of our most conspicuous insect groups.
Participants will put newly learned identification skills to practice during a walk in the Garden with the instructor.

Bob Allen, Research Associate, RSABG and Author
