With fire season upon us, homeowners living in hazard areas are looking for ways to better protect their property from destructive wildfires. Landscape Designer, Susan Frommer lives in an energy-efficient, straw-bale home she and her husband constructed in Murrieta amid the chaparral-covered slopes of the Santa Ana Mountains. The thoughtful design, selective use of materials and purposeful construction offers their home significant protection from wildfire. The defensible space around the house is equally important to provide a buffer zone against fires, and provide firefighters access and space to protect the home. Susan Frommer will tour us through her home and garden and explain how to maintain a defensible space landscape. She will also demonstrate how to prune and clear fire prone vegetation, provide a list of fire resistant plants, and describe how to properly space plantings and maintain the landscape. Lunch at the Frommers and transportation provided by RSABG are included in the fee.
