There are 19 species of oaks in southern California and as a group, they are one of the most important and recognizable groups of plants in the region. With the exception of a few that are easily recognized, determining to which species a particular tree or shrub belongs can be challenging. In this workshop participants get hands-on experience examining fresh oak material for many of southern California’s species. The class will focus on leaf variation, trichome recognition, and distinguishing acorns.
