Guided school tours are available Tuesday or Friday at 9:30 or 10:00 a.m.   Fee: $50 per class.

A Sensational Walk – recommended for grades pre-K through 2
Many of us rely heavily on the sense of sight to explore our surroundings.  Nature Interpreters will lead students through the Garden and encourage them to use their senses to gather information about the environment.  Sight, smell, hearing and touch all come into play as children are introduced to native plants along the paths.

A Sense of California – recommended for grades K through 8
Our Garden showcases California’s unique plants and their distinctive habitats.  It is a dynamic place, constantly changing with the cool and heat of the day, the cycles of flowering plants, the migration of birds, and the infinite transformations in nature that come with the predictable cycle of seasons.  This introductory tour of the Garden is adaptable for students of various ages and caters specifically to their quest for knowledge about California’s natural heritage.

Tree Detectives – recommended for grades 3 through 6
A supplemental Take-Out Kit is available for classroom use in tandem with this tour.
California is home to the tallest, biggest, oldest, most diverse tree species in the world.  On our “walk in the woods” students will discover the special attributes of these trees and more. Identifying parts of a tree and understanding how a tree grows introduces students to basic plant science. Trees inspire artists, writers, historians, scientists and gardeners.  Teachers can channel this inspiration into an endless possibility of lessons across varied curricular areas back at school.
