On Thursday, June 15, 2011, RSABG celebrated a dedicated group of men and women who reached volunteer service milestones!
At the annual volunteer appreciation dinner 26 volunteer honorees received service pins for 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years of active volunteer service.
Included in this year’s honorees are Gwen Barnes, with 25 years of service; and Mary Pierson, with 20 years of service. Other service recognition honorees are Fran Neu, Ruth Pitt, Joan Presecan, Carol Shafer, Norma Standard, Frank Way and Susan Winderman with 15 years of service; Bob Davis, Marjorie Hammond, John Macdonald, Pat Norin, Barbara Rogers, Paul Royalty, Don Simpson, Sid Tice and Ken Dale with 10 years of service; and Michael Gregory, Jane Hehnke, Kathleen Mulligan and Sally Prusia with 5 years of service.
These honorees, along with more than 250 other esteemed volunteers, contribute thousands of hours to the Garden every year. Last year, RSABG volunteers contributed more than 24,000 hours of service. It is not hyperbole to say that the Garden would not function in its present capacity were it not for the commitment and generosity of time, energy and talent of volunteers.
Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden values and appreciate volunteers immensely. We strive to provide interesting ways for volunteers to invest their skills and expertise in worthwhile work, and we offer frequent opportunities for learning knew skills, acquiring new knowledge, meeting new friends and participating in new and exciting experiences.
The annual “RSABG 101” volunteer orientation and training course will take place in September and October in 2011. Tour leaders, also known as nature interpreters, are especially needed to lead school-age children on tours of the Garden and teach them basic nature facts and concepts. Gift shop (California Garden Shop) and horticulture/gardening volunteers are also sought.
