Title:Sales Associate



Reports to: retail nursery manager

Position Overview

Grow native Nursery is seeking an energetic and creative native plant enthusiast. The ideal

candidate will have great interpersonal skills and an infectious personality backed by horticultural

knowledge and the ability to sell plants. The Sales Associate will work at Rancho Santa Ana

Botanic Garden’s retail nursery Grow Native Nursery in the Veterans Garden located on the VA

campus in West Los Angeles.

Duties and Responsibilities

The position will work closely with the Nursery manager to place plant orders and take a monthly

inventory of nursery stock. In addition to plant sales, the Sales Associate will be expected to

attend meetings, or special events at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden in Claremont,

California. The Sales Associate is primarily responsible for customer service which includes, but

is not limited to, assisting customers with plant selections, placing special orders, informing

customers of specials, and upcoming events, responding to customer emails, diagnosing plant

disease, identifying plant material, and trouble shooting design problems. The Sales Associate is

responsible for keeping the nursery fully stocked of plant material, hard goods, and general

supplies. The sales associate will coordinate with the Retail Nursery Manager to create and

maintain nursery displays, and ensure that all nursery material is properly signed and priced.

and maintenance as well as product information)


closely with and helps to supervise parttime

veteran employees participating in




work (watering, labeling, pruning, weeding, cleaning, organizing sales benches,

creating sales displays, maintaining nursery signage, general cleanup)


maintenance (watering, planting, pruning, pest control, general cleanup)


manager with taking and posting monthly inventory



level degree in horticulture or in another plant science and/or demonstrated hands on

experience, nursery experience is preferred


have knowledge of California native plants and their horticultural requirements


have retail sales experience. Merchandising experience is a plus


have good organizational, communication, and basic math skills necessary


have good attendance record


be available to work weekends and holidays

Physical Demands


be able to stand for extended periods of time and walk long distances to various outdoor



be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs


be willing to work outside in inclement weather conditions
