Mirabilis laevis var. crassifolia - wishbone bush
This summer deciduous non-succulent perennial grows abundantly throughout the coastal scrub, often climbing over rocks or growing up inside other shrubs. Flower color varies tremendously on the island, ranging from deep purple to pure white. Flower size is also quite variable, from ~ 0.6-0.9” across. The branching pattern of this bush is distinctive, with branches ‘forking’ into pairs that grow at an angle of about 75 degrees, giving it the common name of wishbone bush, and making it readily identified in summer even without leaves and flowers.
